One thing I really appreciate about Heartstopper is how it puts friendships on the same level as romantic relationships. Like, how Charlie wrote Tao’s name on the lock and not Nick’s? That was so beautiful. It shows that friendships matters as much, that we should cherish them too.
One of my favourite aspects in the season 2 of Heartstopper is how unapologetically intolerant everyone is towards homophobia. Like.
Harry showing up at Tara’s birthday party and Charlie shutting the door in his face despite that apology.
Nick freely calling out his brother’s biphobic behavior. Tori literally sinking her nails in David’s arm when he was mocking Charlie and Nick and planning to out them.
It’s so refreshing. There’s no moment where someone asks Charlie or Nick to be the “bigger people” and forgive anyone who undermined, mocked, dismissed, and harassed them for their identity.
Because that shit shouldn’t be tolerated ever and it’s not acceptable. Queer people aren’t here to be your redemption arc.
More little details that you might have missed/forgotten about in Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom
(Part 4, I think)
1) When Bahjan said that if she didn’t eat anything he would have to force-feed her, Inej’s immediate reaction was to reply that if he tried then she’d but his fingers off and honestly I just love that so much what a damn icon
2) It also took Inej all of five minutes to become suspicious that Bajhan and Alys were having an affair, and there are several instances later in the book that heavily imply her to be correct
3) When Jesper was a kid and first realised that he could pull colour from objects, his first instinct was to bleach a massive swear word across his father’s jurda field; this will never fail to amuse me
4) In the first chapter of Six of Crows, Leigh has Joost wish that Anya’s eyes were blue instead of brown because they would be easier to compliment, then spent the rest of two novels having Kaz and Inej internally describe and compliment each other’s brown eyes over and over again - it gets me every time
5) When Colm first arrives in Ketterdam and Jesper is terrified to tell him the truth of what’s going on, Wylan panics and makes up a lie about being duped out of their money. He also immediately takes the blame, claiming that he suggested to Jesper that they took a deal that turned out to be false. Not only is this linking to the point the books like to bring across about the best lies being close to the truth by referencing the deal with Van Eck going south, but it’s also a heartbreaking nod to Wylan’s trauma when he internally explains his reasoning for doing it; that he couldn’t bare the idea of Colm’s stress and confusion turning to anger that he would take out on Jesper. We as the reader know Colm to be a wonderful man and a far cry from Van Eck, and although Wylan quickly learns this in that exact moment it’s a dark nod to the paralysing fear he had of his own father because of the abuse he suffered, and the terror that every parent is like that and he has to put himself in the way to protect Jesper.

all of ryan gosling’s comments about “telling ken’s story” are really interesting and even funnier now that i’ve seen the movie. yeah ken is ridiculous but his feelings and sentiments are really similar to ones of seen from boys who are starting to enter that alt-right/incel pipeline. feeling abandoned and useless without a woman and turning that hurt into anger at women!! ken’s story did get told and it’s a story that i don’t think we acknowledge enough
I love thinking about how both Jesper and Kaz look completely different from other people’s povs (Jesper like a flirty sharpshooter and Kaz like the guy with the plan), whereas when you get into their heads all they’re thinking about is their love interests
meanwhile there’s Matthias who’s so incredibly bad at hiding how he feels about Nina, everybody knew exactly how he felt on the inside because it’s what he showed on the outside
just had an insane canon compliant idea.
what if instead of three trials, amarantha made feyre go through seven? one for each of the seven courts. every challenge is based on something about any of the courts, and each trial that feyre wins guarantees the freedom of a court and it’s high lord. but feyre has to win all of them, in order for amarantha to actually agree to set them free (bc she’s nasty like that).
so feyre starts with night, which is when her bargain with rhys happens (either before or after that trial), and then the final trial is spring, where she kills three members of the court, the last being tamlin.
or it can be a mix and match situation where amarantha gets to pick which court feyre will fight for.
i know this would only make our girl suffer worse and for longer (trust me i feel awful), but i just think would’ve made the plot of book 1 way juicier. plus it would really highlight the fact that feyre truly fought for ALL of prythian’s freedom, not just tamlin’s and the sc. it could give her a chance to form connections with all of the high lords, so they would know that she really did earn the title of cursebreaker bc they’d see that she singlehandedly went to war for each of them. that way, their decision to give her a piece of their powers would have way more meaning than just rhys persuading them to do it.
